July 17th through 19th the Village of Wellsville, New York is transformed, with an explosion of colorthat fills the sky with over 40 hot air balloons, into a festival of sights, sounds, people and fun things to do. Wellsville, a town of about 8,000 people, swells during the Balloon Rally Weekend to a community of over 60,000 for the three day familyoriented happening. The Village comes alive at the first balloon flight Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. Several balloons re-inflate after dark on the field for the "afterglow". With special burners, the illuminated balloons look like giant painted lightbulbs standing on the ground against the night sky. Events continue with two launches on Saturday, at 6:30 a.m. and at 6:30 p.m. Wellsville is bustling with activity between launches Saturday, including a downtown festival with over 100 crafters and foodvendors and sidewalk sales.
